What is EPREL?
EPREL (European Product Database for Energy Labelling) is an electronic platform for suppliers, manufacturers or retailers of products needing an EU energy label.
The European Commission's Energy Labelling was created in 1992 with the intention of informing buyers about the energy consumption of different products that use energy to operate, mainly household appliances. Thus, consumers could know the real acquisition cost of a product or compare it with others, taking into account factors beyond the purchase price.
Since 2019, all manufacturers, importers, or authorized representatives established in the EU, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein are required to register products that require energy labelling in a European database called EPREL (European Product Database for Energy Labelling).
This database contains information on the energy efficiency of products regulated by energy labelling, ensuring transparency in the important standards of EU countries.
As of January 2022, companies requiring energy labelling of their products must have a qualified electronic seal, compulsory for the electronic verification required by the legislation.
What is a digital certificate?
A digital certificate (or electronic certificate) is a small file issued by a Certification Authority, which is responsible for ensuring the link between an entity or person and their certificate.
The digital certificate allows the person or entity to verify their identity technically and legally on the internet or digital environments.
If the digital certificate belongs to an entity or organization, it is referred to as a digital seal.
In Europe, electronic seals are governed by the eIDAS Regulation on digital identity. Only a legal representative of the company or a delegated person from the company's legal representative can request a Qualified eSeal.
